The finished guitar!
Step 1: Selecting the wood...

This is the top wood, two bookmatched pieces of 'blister' maple.

And this will be the body of the guitar, a slab of tropical mahogany.

The top and body.

The 5-piece neck will be flamed maple and pearwood veneer. The fretboard and tailpiece are Mun (or Moon) Ebony, from south-east Asia, with pronounced figuring. The 'wings' at the end of the fretboard are flamed maple.

The final wood selections.
Step 2: Body preparation...

After the basic body shaping is done, a 'belly cut' is made. (An entirely appropriate name.) Rough cuts with a chisel first...

Then some work with a rasp...

Getting there...

The final result...
